Dave Malter

Senior Instructor

Dave “Professor Dave” Malter, is a frequent speaker at camp conferences around the United States and has been involved with camps and youth development for over thirty years as a camper, counselor, administrator, educator and consultant. Dave grew up at Camp Discovery in New York, enjoying eight summers as a camper and seven summers working with special needs campers. He went on to become the “Director of Fun” at Meadowbrook Country Day Camp and joined the American Camp Association‐NY/NJ office working on educational initiatives. When he graduated from his Tri‐State position, Dave joined Pine Grove Day Camp in New Jersey as the Assistant Director for 5 years. Dave currently spends his Summers at Camp Canadensis as part of the Leadership Team with his wife, Pam, who is a co‐director and their dogs, Brock, Ellie and Franklin. Dave is a proud AMSkier Insurance Partner who facilitates the Ezersky Safety College and Child Safety Workshops. He also serves at the Chair of the ACA Keystone Local Council of Leaders. In addition to his work with camps, Dave has completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Gratz College. His passions are deeply rooted in providing innovative educational content to youth development professionals.

Daniel Chacon

Executive Director, Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation

Daniel Chacon has a BA in sociology and social work from Biola University. He has worked as an emergency dispatcher, firefighter, high school teacher and nonprofit executive. He joined the staff of the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation in 2010 as the camps and recreation sr. coordinator, right after his work in the fire service. In 2011, as he was teaching, Daniel also worked as a camp director for 300 teens who were affected by the tsunami in Japan at UC Berkeley. The following summer Daniel worked as the Head Resident Advisor for a summer STEM program at Stanford University for underrepresented youth. As well as continued to volunteer for Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation and participated in Champ Camp (the world largest camp for burn injured children. In 2013, Daniel officially rejoined the staff at the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. He has worked as the Northern California Regional Manager, the NorCal Senior Regional Manager and the Statewide Quality Assurance Manager, and in January of 2017 he was promoted to Assistant Director. As the Assistant Director, Daniel oversees the Regional Managers and the general oversight of all programs and services in burn prevention and survivor support statewide. Focusing on financial assistance, emotional and psychological support through therapy, support groups, peer support, and year‐around recreation and camp programs for children, adults and families impacted by a burn injury. A proud member of the American Burn Association, the American Camp Association, and the International Association of Burn Camps. In 2016, Daniel was elected as a Board Member for the International Association of Burn Camps, and currently he serves as the Board President/chair. The IABC offers monthly zoom discussion and educational meetings, annual meeting at the ABA Conference and a Bi‐Annual Burn Camp Workshop/ Conference. He is passionate about finding outcomes and measurements on impact, and has partnered on numerous research studies for burn survivors and burn prevention, and has presented at the American Burn Association Annual Meeting, the International Association of Burn Camps Workshop, the American Camp Association National Conference‐research forum, Phoenix Society World Burn Congress, SafeKids Worldwide‐PrevCon, Vision 2020, Conference of the Rockies, Oregon Prevention Workshop, Washington State Fire Marshal Fire Prevention Institute and the Safer California Conference.
